This is a long weekend trip where we took my father up to the "Tri-Cities" area (Banks, Crouch and Garden Valley) of Idaho. One of our long time favorite places to be. We called "Pine Flats" campground our home. Before we made it to camp, we were informed the road was closed due to forest fires in the area. Just before turning to try another loaction, they opened our road. What ensued was a "very" interesting trip right into an active forest fire. I'll tell you this, it's one thing to see this stuff on TV but, to see the magnitude up close and in person is quite a learning experience. We've always respected those who put their lives in danger to fight forest fires but this puts it into an entirely new perspective. And of course, the highlight was to have a Sikorsky Sky Crane literally come down and pull water from the Main section of the Payette River, right over our heads! Check the little inflatable kayak to the lower right of the screen. Wow is about all I can say. I think everyone had a fun, exciting, sad and education experience all wrapped up in one. Please be careful with your fire in the wild.
