Will Parham kayaking on the Payette River in Idaho during high water in May 2012. This wave is known as "The Bladder". The wave forms when water flows over the top of a 200 foot wide inflatable rubber dam. This feature is very dynamic and is dependent upon many factors including the river level, the amount of water being diverted into the canal and fish ladder, the volume and position of the air within the inflatable bladder, the amount of sediment in front of and behind the dam, the amount of suspended sediment and the consistency of the incoming flow pulses. In some years, this feature is surfable for months, while in other years, the feature never comes in at surfable levels. The feature can be consistent or it can fluctuate and go through "cycles". During these "cycles" the incoming water and the air within the bladder are constantly changing, creating a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable feature. In a matter of seconds, the wave, as well as the eddies and whirlpools, can morph and change into large hydraulics or completely disappear. The inflatable rubber dam is the result of a hydroelectric diversion installed in the mid 1990's, the formation of this surf wave is a mere coincidence. At many different levels the rubber dam can create a dangerous low head dam style hydraulic. The song is Rocketship by One Be Lo.

Me and my brother and my dad went for a little trip on my Excursion 5 inflatable raft. We have a 44lb trolling motor hooked up to the back. Its a lot better than rowing :) Running at full speed with the marine battery we can go for appx. 1.5 hours. The raft has a modified plywood floor which sits atop pvc pipes. The floor is solid enough to comfortably stand on and walk around. It consists of three pieces held together with hinges so that it can be folded up and easily fit into my trunk. The plastic is only there to keep the plywood dry. There will be carpeting on top in the near future.

A few buddies travel to Roseburg Oregon from Los Angeles, California once a year to kayak the North Umpqua river for a few days (june 12 - 14, 2009) in inflatable kayaks. This river consists of rapids ranging from class 2's up to class 4's out of class 6 on the rating chart. The water was fast and higher than normal this year. 3 of us fell out of our kayaks going through the rapids but everyone survived with no serious injuries. Great fun!!!

A few buddies travel to Roseburg Oregon from Los Angeles, California once a year to kayak the North Umpqua river for a few days (june 12 - 14, 2009) in inflatable kayaks. This river consists of rapids ranging from class 2's up to class 4's out of class 6 on the rating chart. The water was fast and higher than normal this year. 3 of us fell out of our kayaks going through the rapids but everyone survived with no serious injuries. Great fun!!!

This is a long weekend trip where we took my father up to the "Tri-Cities" area (Banks, Crouch and Garden Valley) of Idaho. One of our long time favorite places to be. We called "Pine Flats" campground our home. Before we made it to camp, we were informed the road was closed due to forest fires in the area. Just before turning to try another loaction, they opened our road. What ensued was a "very" interesting trip right into an active forest fire. I'll tell you this, it's one thing to see this stuff on TV but, to see the magnitude up close and in person is quite a learning experience. We've always respected those who put their lives in danger to fight forest fires but this puts it into an entirely new perspective. And of course, the highlight was to have a Sikorsky Sky Crane literally come down and pull water from the Main section of the Payette River, right over our heads! Check the little inflatable kayak to the lower right of the screen. Wow is about all I can say. I think everyone had a fun, exciting, sad and education experience all wrapped up in one. Please be careful with your fire in the wild.

A few buddies travel to Roseburg Oregon from Los Angeles, California once a year to kayak the North Umpqua river for a few days (june 12 - 14, 2009) in inflatable kayaks. This river consists of rapids ranging from class 2's up to class 4's out of class 6 on the rating chart. The water was fast and higher than normal this year. 3 of us fell out of our kayaks going through the rapids but everyone survived with no serious injuries. Great fun!!!
